easysteam is a steam oven, taking many activities related to the activity of cooking. Its tray at the bottom collects all the water that has condensed during steaming. As the bottom of tray is not inside the cooking cavity, which is the case for traditional ovens, the tray can easily be used to bring the steamed food to the table.
During a field research conducted in nine households, many insights about cooking process have been gained. The meaning of domestic cooking was mostly associated with hygiene and health. At the same time, household runners also preferred the products and materials that would make the transition between different activities, such as cooking, serving and washing less cumbersome. In easysteam, the tray enables this easy transition among those activities and is used in every stage.
The project has been realized in collaboration with the biggest white goods manufacturer in Turkey, Arçelik A.Ş. and has been submitted as the graduation project, for Bachelor of Industrial Design at METU, Ankara.
